When fully developed the
Instructor Standards Framework will consist of the
following components:
Standards:
overarching goals
and themes that provide a framework for what instructors
should know and be able to do
Competencies: statements
that describe key knowledge, skills, behaviors, or
practices that instructors need to possess
Levels:
four levels of
competence that reflect Bloom’s Taxonomy of skills and
progressively span skills that require (1) knowledge and comprehension, (2)
application, (3) analysis, and (4) synthesis and
evaluation. The progressive levels are designed to
help new instructors see a pathway for ongoing
professional growth. It should be noted, however,
that the levels are not intended to be totally
sequential. Instructors are likely to master
competencies within multiple levels simultaneously.
Sample Attainment Methods:
sources of professional growth that can be used to
acquire competence
Documentation Criteria:
observable and measurable evidence of the competencies
in practice - required for applicants seeking a
credential
