Online PD Directory / Evaluation Form

Introduction to Delivering at a Distance, North Carolina Basic Skills is both facilitated and non-facilitated.  The course provides an introduction to the basic components you need to set up a distance learning program.  The course also describes various distance learning models and explores resources that can give more detailed information on distance learning in adult education programs. It begins with a description of the basic components of a distance learning program.  It continues with a step-by-step process for setting up a distance learning course.  The course also suggests a framework for selecting curriculum for distance learning programs.

You will learn to identify how distance education programs and distance learners are defined by the National Reporting System guidelines for distance education.  The course explains how contact hours are reported for distance learning students.  You can start and stop your study as your time permits.

The course addresses five key components:

Lesson 1: Introduction to Delivering at a Distance

Lesson 2: Basic Components of Distance Learning

Lesson 3: Distance Learning Curriculum and Selecting Materials

Lesson 4: Reporting Distance Education Students

Lesson 5: Summary and Resources

The course is more than a reading tutorial – it’s interactive.  This means there are activities and assignments that will keep instructors engaged.

  • Assignments – Lessons are included to provide pragmatic use in starting or working in a distance learning program.

  • Video – There are short video clips that participants will view during the course that illustrate key components in distance learning.

  • Discussion Board – Participants will be asked periodically to post their reflections on the discussion board.  This will give them a chance to read what others are thinking as well.

  • Knowledge Checks - At the end of each lesson, there’s a short Quiz to ensure understanding of the content.

  • Course Summary Exam - Successful completion of the summary exam and each of the lesson quizzes are required for a certificate of completion.
